Hot Coffee Cups May Be Leaching More Than You Think

That disposable coffee cup may look like paper, but many are lined with plastic to prevent leaking.

When hot drinks sit in plastic-lined cups, microplastics and other particles may transfer into the beverage. Heat can increase the problem, especially with repeated exposure from daily coffee, tea, or hot drinks served in disposable cups.

A daily habit can become a daily exposure.

Simple steps you can take today:

Use a stainless steel, ceramic, or glass travel cup.
Avoid pouring very hot liquids into plastic-lined cups.
Do not reheat drinks in disposable cups.
Reduce daily use of single-use hot beverage cups.

At INMUHEALTH, prevention starts with education and routine checkups, including wellness monitoring, lifestyle risk reviews, lab work when needed, and referrals for specialized care.
